Goals Met!
Don’t you love to hear that phrase? I sure do. The goals were set high and John Armour was able to deliver! Perini Construction‘s concrete plant came down the hill from Be Like Brit to accommodate the 50+ yards of concrete that needed to be poured. Working with about a hundred men, John patiently and enthusiastically explained and followed up for 8 days to accomplish all that he’d set out to do…for the moment, that is…
John’s big goal is to move with his family to Haïti for a year to oversee construction at MOHI. At the very least, he’s willing to fly back and forth to work for a couple of weeks at a time, but it would be much better for all of us if he comes to stay with his family. Sooooooooo…
Right now we need to raise some serious money to help make this happen. John has a home, a business, and other responsibilities at home in Jacksonville that must be taken care of. We need to raise about $4,000 per month ($48,000 for the year) in order for John and his family to join us.
By the way, John’s wife and children are pretty incredible, too. Lisa works right along side of her husband, but she is also very capable administratively. Austin was John’s right hand man in the construction last week. Alexis and A. Jay are rooting for Sierra (14) and Sam (12) to come live here and do school together with them each day. Although they only spent a few hours together when we met them in Jacksonville a few years ago, they remember them very well. A. Jay enthusiastically told me, “Mom! They’re really good kids!!!!” As a mom, I understand how much of an influence our kids friends can have on them. I’m all for really good kids being my kids best buddies!
Gifts for Children and their Families
We have had a great response to our new gift shop. Christmas gifts are being distributed now in Grand-Goâve and St. Etienne. The smiles are priceless. Thank you so much to all of you who have given gifts for Christmas. The gift shop will be available year round, so if you would like to remember a friend for a birthday, anniversary or other special occassion, please visit the gift shop and make the gift go twice as far.
The Most Beautiful Floor
I’m so excited about the new floor in the church in St. Etienne. Remember they say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My eyes see the most beautiful floor ever. This church poured this floor without asking the mission for a cent (or a gourdes)! The people in the church all put their money together and then did the labor themselves. When you realize that most of these families are living way below the poverty level, you know that they sacrificed to pour a floor worth a couple thousand dollars. Why does this excite me so? Because I am a firm believer in the law of sowing and reaping. I know that when they give, the Bible principle applies… “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” (Luke 6:38 ASBV) This church is setting themselves up to succeed!
