Forms coming down, plaster going up!

Keep It Going!

This week construction picked up again at the MOHI School.  After letting the 2nd floor concrete slab cure for 28 days, we are now taking down forms and beginning to plaster the classroom ceilings.

We received a grant from EIn Herz feur Kinder for 255,000 Euros to get this project going.  To date we have invested just over $500,000 in this building.  We are so grateful to all of you, who have helped to get us to this point.  The first phase structure is up.  We now need to do all of the finish work.  Boston architect, Paul Fallon, has estimated this will cost an additional $160,000.

We are asking for your help to see this phase of construction complete and children using the school in January 2013! The obvious way to help, would be by making a financial gift to MOHI, specifically for construction. There are other, less obvious, but just as critical ways you can help.  Those ways are by using your voice.

  • Share what MOHI is doing with your friends, business associates and extended family members. We are often amazed by how a friend of a friend of a friend comes through with something critical just at the moment it is needed.  Many of you have seen first hand what MOHI is doing in Haiti.  You know personally that funds are going to impact lives and generations to come.  Please, tell others what you know.
  • Plan a fund raising event for MOHI.  That’s what Chris and Joy Youell did.  Tonight we are participating in a fund raising dinner, just outside of Pittsburgh in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.  They’ve made it FUN for folks, with door prizes and raffles, entertainment and food.  They received many donations from local businesses to make it worth the ticket price to those coming, too.
  • Contact your business associates about end of year giving.  As we enter into the last quarter of the year, many business owners are looking for a good organization to donate to (and receive tax breaks) before the end of the tax year.

Use your imagination!  Let’s get this project completed together!

Special Events

The past month has been full of special events for our family, as we “tour” the northeastern corner of America.  This week we have been in Pennsylvania, with our friends Chris and Joy Youell.  Chris and Joy started coming to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010.  Tonight we are busy having fun at the fund raising dinner they organized for us.  They and their church, Living Bridge Community Church, have gone all out for this night.

Travis’ mom, Connie, shows us the church

We spent some time with Travis Knipple and his family this week, sharing at their Skateboard Church and a men’s breakfast.  Many of you know Travis from Haiti.  We are excited for him as he is officially engaged to be married now.  Congratulations to Travis and Jamie!  They will be married in Uganda, where Jamie’s family has lived for years as missionaries.  They will honeymoon in Kenya, return to Pennsylvania for a reception and then begin their new lives in Haiti.  How’s that for exciting?!!!

School

The 2012-2013 school year opens on Monday.  Between so many of our high school students working this summer on the school and the outstanding national exam results, spirits are really high.  Looking forward to another great school year.  Please remember the school in prayer, as organization can be interesting as the year begins.

Thank you!

We’re heading to the fund raising dinner now, so I’m a little short tonight.  We appreciate all of you who faithfully read these posts, pray and support us in so many ways.  God bless you!
