Every week is busy – full of great events and sometimes a few difficulties. The great is still outweighing the difficult. 🙂
Twelve more “Akronites” arrived this past week. Some were old friends and some were new, but all were welcome. They have been working very hard all week on 3 different construction sites. Some have been helping with the excavation for the new school at MOHI, others have helped Drex at the Hands and Feet Project’s new Grand-Goâve site and still others have been helping at the Be Like Brit orphanage site. Everyone has enjoyed activities with kids and getting to know some of the young people at MOHI. Saturday everyone went up into the mountains for a hike and today they enjoyed church, followed by a cookout at the beach.
Some of the team leaves tomorrow, while Kim Conrad will be flying in with the last few stragglers. We are eager to have Kim back to make things happen during this final week. Please continue to pray for the teams, as they focus on dying to themselves and serving others this week.
The political situation in Grand-Goâve seems to have calmed down. Thank you for your prayers. Let’s continue to thank God for peace in this place. Thank you.
We are looking forward to our first Senior Class at the MOHI high school graduating next month, on June 17th. This will be a huge event for us. We are so proud of everyone involved. The percentage of young people that complete high school is very small and we are just so thrilled with how hard these kids have worked.
We are thinking, also, about the future of these young adults. We are looking for sponsors for those wanting to continue their educations at a University in Port-au-Prince. Student loans and scholarships are not found here in Haiti, but you can make a difference in the future of one young person, that can impact their entire family, community, even nation. Today’s poorest of the poor could become tomorrows entrepreneurs, doctors, ministers and school teachers. Maybe one will discover a cure for a disease thought incurable. Another could become the president to change the course of the nation. God knows the plans He has for them. Please consider that He might like to use you to make His plan come to pass. The cost of tuition for one semester is about $5,000. Maybe you are involved with a group, a church, a company or firm that would like to help. Please contact us soon, so that we can get these kids signed up to further their educations.
