I’m so excited about the MOHI campus in St. Etienne. They have so much going on right now. First of all, the church has been so packed for months now, that we finally decided to expand. The new wooden building is 30ft wide and 100 ft long. The people from the church have been coming out daily to work on it. It’s so funny to see this church. It appears to be in the middle of nothing. One can hardly notice any houses, but in fact there are thousands of homes in the mountains that are just not visible from the roads. Most of them are tucked away under trees and most also have some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable.
A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege of setting up the 6 new Sunblazer in various remote areas of the country. One of those units went to St. Etienne, where Pastor Hakine is managing it. The first night, he slept under the unit and the next day he built a cage around it, as you see in the picture. He has rented out the 40 home kits to people in the area. Yesterday, Lex had the opportunity to accompany representatives of the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to see first hand if this unit is having any affect in the community. What a thrill to visit the customers and see the lights in their homes.
The customers are absolutely thrilled with their home kits. This area has never had electricity from the electric company. The spoke with such pride as they told Lex about putting a lightbulb in the yard and how it lights up the entire area. They are able to listen to the radio without any batteries and can charge their cell phone. They were told that they’d have to bring their battery back for charging every two or three days, but are discovering that the charge is lasting more like 7 to 8 days. To see the smiles and hear the enthusiasm in their voices is so rewarding. We are so glad that we partnered with Sirona Cares to bring this project to St. Etienne. These people are so blessed!
