Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day

To all you fathers who are providing for your families, loving them, praying for them and being a great example to them – we honor you today.  Thank you for all that you do!!!!

ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer and Nightline ran a couple of stories about a special dad this weekend.  We have been working with him for about a year and a half now, helping to see the construction of the Be Like Brit orphanage completed this coming January.  If you don’t know about this organization, I encourage you to check out the Nightline story to learn more.  Glad you are here with us on Father’s Day, Len.

People Like You Making a Difference!

Everyone that comes to Mission of Hope in Haiti is of great value.  The past couple of weeks we’ve had such incredible help from those visiting us.

Some of Chris and Joy Youell's activities this past week

Chris and Joy Youell have become MOHI veterans and are always such a blessing to us.  This trip they were able to coordinate activities for all our visitors and play host.  Now, this may sound simple, but it is anything but!  Things break down easily in Haiti, and they are not only able to go with the flow, but remove the stress from the situations, as well.  They made sure people had a place to be, a way to get there, water to drink, food to eat and answers to the many questions that pop up daily.  Yes, being a host is no easy feat, but they do it with grace.  Thank you Chris and Joy!!!

Roseberry Family Activities

Alan Roseberry, after having done the rough plumbing at Be Like Brit, asked to come back this summer to help MOHI.  Not only did he come back, but he brought his wife Patti and two daughters Megan and Hannah with him.  What an incredible family!  Alan worked like crazy in the EXTREME weather (VERY HOT/VERY SUNNY!) and drank most of our water supply, but that’s great because now the school has plumbing and the kitchen where our guests are housed has water in it.  We are SO grateful!  Patti, Megan and Hannah were all just as hard working as Dad.  They taught hygiene classes to all of our elementary classes and did several lessons with crafts for our preschool classes.  They also did a lot of work in the clinic, dusting all those shelves of supplies and packaging medicines.  Hannah joined the worship team for our English service, which was just incredible.  Our heartfelt thanks go out to each member of the Roseberry family!

McKenzie Baker is another hard worker.  She and Becca Lamb are both here for one month.  They are from the University of Akron (I can hear the cheering!) and have been here previously.  They both have been involved in activities with our students.  Becca just graduated with a degree in photography, and took pictures of all our students that will be graduating from both schools at the end of this month.  McKenzie is in her last year of nursing school and is putting her knowledge to good use, working with Angela in the pharmacy/clinic.  She’s already been called on to suture wounds on two different people.

Water

Drinking water - critical to a healthy life

Safe drinking water can be very hard to come by in Haiti.  Even in the wealthiest of neighborhoods, they usually have to truck in water.  We have been blessed with filtration systems to use both internally and for our neighbors.

Construction Update

All that form work is like building a wooden house before the concrete one!!!

The first floor is almost formed up in preparation for the remaining re-bar and finally the concrete pour.  We are aiming to pour on June 29-30, just before our annual conference.  Please support us in prayer for this to continue on as smoothly as it has been going up to this point.  Thank you.

Student Evaluations

Good Penmanship!

This week our preschool director has been spending time with each child, evaluating how they are doing with their writing skills.  I love to watch this happening, knowing how important that one on one time can be.

Wilson

So far so good!  Keep those prayers going up on behalf of Wilson, diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  He’s had a week’s worth of chemo-therapy and has taken it very well.  He’s had a bit of swelling and tenderness, but nothing difficult to deal with.  We’re trusting the Lord will bring him through in health.

Annual Conference

We are so excited about our upcoming annual conference at the church in Thozin, Grand-Goâve. We are expecting Pastors, church leaders and friends from many different areas of the country.  The church is motivated to serve all those coming.  I am confident that the Lord has some really special things prepared for His people again this year!!!  As always, your prayers are greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
